The Battle of the Books is a statewide Alaskan reading, motivation and comprehension program sponsored by the Alaska Association of School Librarians. The goals of the program are to encourage and recognize students who enjoy reading, broaden reading interests, increase reading comprehension, and promote academic excellence. The lists of books are chosen and questions are written for all grade levels. Students in 3rd grade through High School read books and meet to discuss the books and practice quiz questions on the content. At the district and state tournaments, student teams compete against other schools to see who knows the most about the books.
Denali Borough School District holds a Battle of the Books Jamboree for students in Kindergarten, grade 1 and grade 2 each year to celebrate reading and promote reading comprehension. This event rotates between Anderson, Cantwell, and Tri-Valley Schools.
